WASHINGTON, DC, January 2, 2001 – The American Advertising Federation (AAF), as administrator of the Advertising Hall of Fame, the industry's greatest honor for lifetime achievement in advertising, is proud to announce the election of four new industry innovators.

The newest members of the Advertising Hall of Fame are the following:

  • Peter A. Georgescu, former chairman & CEO, Young and Rubicam (Y&R), developer of one of the most prestigious global advertising firms
  • Patricia Martin, former director of marketing support, Warner-Lambert Company, a pioneer for women in the advertising industry
  • William S. Paley, former chairman of the board, CBS Inc., (posthumously), an early pioneer and founder of television broadcasting.

The recipients will be officially inducted into the prestigious Advertising Hall of Fame at an awards luncheon and ceremony March 20 at New York's Waldorf=Astoria hotel.

"Reginald Brack, Peter Georgescu, Pat Martin and Bill Paley laid the foundation for the modern-day world of advertising-an industry that stands strong thanks to their contributions. "Such pioneering spirit is to be commended, along with their unwavering dedication and substantial contributions to the dynamic world of advertising."

The Advertising Hall of Fame began in 1948, and since then 153 men and women, including this year's awardees, have been elected to this illustrious group. They include such industry giants as David Ogilvy, John Wanamaker, Leo Burnett, Mary Wells Lawrence, Harley Procter and Ray Kroc. These awards are the most prestigious in the industry honoring those individuals who have set the standard for advertising executives.

Tom Curley, president & publisher, USA TODAY, served as vice chair. An entire list of the Council of Judges is attached. The awards ceremony will take place March 20 at The Waldorf=Astoria hotel in New York City.
