WASHINGTON, DC, January 21, 2004 – The American Advertising Federation (AAF), administrator of the Advertising Hall of Fame, the industry's greatest honor for lifetime achievement in advertising, is proud to announce the election of four new industry legends:

  • Karl Eller, former chairman and CEO, Clear Channel Outdoor, tenacious advertising executive who reshaped the business of outdoor advertising and transformed it into a business powerhouse.
  • Philip H. Geier Jr., former chairman and CEO, The Interpublic Group of Companies, dedicated industry leader and activist who defined the modern advertising holding company, as well as promoted and fine-tuned the client-centric business model.
  • John E. Pepper, former chairman and CEO, Procter & Gamble Company, influential leader of one of the world's leading advertisers, who consistently broke new ground in both marketing and product development for the consumer product goods company.
  • Liener Temerlin, chairman emeritus, Temerlin McClain Advertising, innovative ad man who transformed the southwest into a leading agency center by bringing national and international accounts to the area, and tireless supporter of advertising education, pro-bono activities and ethical practices.

The recipients will be officially inducted into the prestigious Advertising Hall of Fame at an awards luncheon and ceremony Tuesday, March 16, at New York's historic Waldorf=Astoria hotel.

"True revolutionaries in the field, these giants all but created modern advertising as we know it," said AAF President and CEO Wally Snyder. "Their greatness and influence is still felt today, and their style is emulated by advertising professionals the world over."

The Advertising Hall of Fame began in 1948, and since then 166 individuals, including this year's honorees, have been elected to this illustrious group. They include such industry giants as Leo Burnett, Jay Chiat, Phil Dusenberry, Katharine Graham, John H. Johnson, David Ogilvy, William Paley, Harley Procter, John Wanamaker and Mary Wells Lawrence. This award is the most prestigious in the industry honoring those individuals who have set the standard for advertising executives.

The Council of Judges, chaired by Jim Stengel, global marketing officer, The Procter & Gamble Company and vice chaired by David Verklin, CEO of Carat North America, selected this year's recipients from among 13 candidates. See below for the entire list of the Council of Judges.
